Olmecip (Generic Benicar)
Olmecip – (Generic Benicar) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. It is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The medicine keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Olmecip is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications.
Dosage
Olmecip may be administered with or without food. In case blood pressure is not controlled by Generic Benicar alone, a diuretic may be added. Olmecip tablets can be administered with other antihypertensive agents. The dosage of Olmecip tablets is given below:
Adult Hypertension:
It is usually recommended to start treatment with Olmecip tablets at a dose of 20 mg once daily. For patients requiring further reduction in blood pressure after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose may be increased to 40 mg once daily
Pediatric Hypertension (6 to 16 years of age):
Please consult with your Doctor or Health Care provider regarding dosage for someone under 18 years old.
How to Use Generic Benicar Tablets (Olmecip Tablets)
Take Generic Benicar tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Your doctor may change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly.
You may take this medicine with or without food. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life.
Pregnancy
Olmecip should not be used if your are pregnant. As soon as pregnancy is detected discontinue use and see your Medical Doctor or Health Care provider as soon as possible
Side effects
The most common side effect of Olmecip in adults is dizziness.
Immediately seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
Dizziness
Urinating less than usual or not at all
Chest pain, fast heart rate
Swelling in your hands or feet
Less serious side effects may include:
Joint or muscle pain
Back pain
Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea
Mild itching or skin rash
Weakness
Other side effects may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
Overdose symptoms may include extreme dizziness, fast or slow heartbeat, or fainting.
Warnings for Olmecip Tablets
You should not take Generic Benicar tablets if you are allergic to Olmesartan Medoxomil or any of it ingredients. If you have any of these other conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests:
kidney disease
liver disease
congestive heart failure
if you are dehydrated
Drinking alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may increase certain side effects of this medicine. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while you are taking this medicine, unless your doctor has told you to.
After taking Olmecip avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
